There has been a reclassification of a Pedwar to 400m Sub-Pedwar status by surveying with the Trimble. The hill is situated in the Pegwn Mawr range of hills and is positioned just to the west of the A483 between the small communities of Dolfor and Llaithddu.
The hill appeared under the Pt (point) notation in the 1st
edition of Y Pedwarau (Europeaklist 2013) with the moniker of Pt. 424m (SO 073
822) being used.
On current Ordnance Survey maps this hill has a 424m spot
height at its summit and a 393m spot height at its bwlch, these values gave the
hill 31m of drop. The summit consists of
cropped grass with a narrow but elongated conifer plantation just to its north-west,
whilst the bwlch has an embankment on it which runs in the hill to hill
direction. The Trimble was set up at the
base of the embankment as this was judged to be man-made. If not for doing this the overall drop for
the hill would be less than that surveyed.
This now brings the overall total for the Y Pedwarau to 451 hills
with five additions and one reclasification to 400m Sub-Pedwar status since publication of the list by
Europeaklist in May 2013. The hill will
be taken out of the main list and added to the 400m Sub-Pedwar list in the 2nd
edition that is planned for publication by Europeaklist.
The list of Pedwar hills is also available from the Haroldstreet
website.
