Summit Relocation of Cyrniau Nod to Foel Cedig

The summit relocation of Cyrniau Nod to Foel Cedig has been confirmed for the following lists; Marilyns, Simms, Hewitts, Uchafion and Pellennig with Alan Dawson as list author for the Marilyns, Simms and Hewitts and Aled Williams and myself the co-authors of the Uchafion and Pellennig.

This summit relocation also affects the Humps and the Nuttalls, the authors of these lists; Mark Jackson and John and Anne Nuttall are not in immediate receipt of these data, but I’m sure they will be made aware of the result and its implication.

Both hills were surveyed on the 16th August 2018 as was the 665m (OS Maps) contour ring between each with a ten minute data set gathered at each, resulting in:

Foel Cedig:  667.4m at SH 98170 28327

Cyrniau Nod:  666.2m at SH 98847 27920

665m (OS Maps) ring contour:  665.5m at SH 98744 28382

The summit of Foel Cedig comprises an attractive knoll with exposed rock and is easily distinguished from surrounding ground, to give the Trimble elevation above its immediate surrounds the equipment was placed on top of my rucksack using this as an improvised tripod and a measurement offset taken between its internal antenna and the ground below.

Gathering data at the summit of Cyrniau Nod

Cyrniau Nod is positioned to the east south-east of Foel Cedig with each summit approximately 800 metres apart, and its high point consists of heather and bilberry interspersed with grass.  It was surveyed for summit position by John Barnard and myself using a level and staff in June 2014 and its high point is positioned approximately 15 metres from a large post inserted in a cairn.
