P30 Hill Reclassification Spreadsheet

Introduction

This spreadsheet documents the P30 reclassifications announced on the Mapping Mountains site, these include those initiated from surveying with the Trimble GeoXH 6000, LIDAR analysis or through map study.

The drop figure is that given in listings I am associated with and the figures quoted are from notification on the old RHB forum, Tump forum, Pedantic forum, publication of hill listings or publication on Mapping Mountains.  The spreadsheet has been created for quick access to these details and these appear in individual list format by chronological date in descending order.

The spreadsheet consists of the following:

Date:  Occasionally a hill may have its summit and bwlch surveyed on different days, or the summit and bwlch may be surveyed on more than one occasion; the date given is just to the day of the first survey.

Name:  This is the name that the hill appears in the Trimble Survey Spreadsheet.  This name is considered the most appropriate and does not always follow Ordnance Survey composition.  Each name is linked to the relevant post on the Mapping Mountains site.

1:50,000 Map:    This column gives the number of the 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey Landranger map that the summit of the hill appears on.

Grid Reference:  This is the grid reference for the summit.

Surveyed Height – Summit (m):  This is the height obtained from surveys conducted with the Trimble GeoXH 6000, LIDAR analysis or from map study.  Where a height is preceded with a ‘c’ this indicates that the bwlch has not been accurately surveyed with the Trimble GeoXH 6000 or from LIDAR analysis and has been attained from contour interpolation.

Surveyed Height – Bwlch (m):  This is the height obtained from surveys conducted with the Trimble GeoXH 6000, LIDAR analysis or from map study.  Where a height is preceded with a ‘c’ this indicates that the bwlch has not been accurately surveyed with the Trimble GeoXH 6000 or from LIDAR analysis and has been attained from contour interpolation.

Surveyed Drop (m):  This column gives the vertical height gain between the bwlch and summit of the hill.  This is commonly referred to as drop, prominence or reascent.  Where the drop value is preceded with a ‘c’ this indicates that the summit and/or bwlch has not been accurately surveyed with the Trimble GeoXH 6000 or from LIDAR analysis and has been attained from contour interpolation.

Previously Listed Drop:  This is the drop figure previously listed prior to the Trimble GeoXH 6000 survey, LIDAR analysis or re-assessment of map data.

Notes:  This column gives brief details relating to the respective hill.

My thanks to Mark Trengove for suggesting a spreadsheet listing P30 reclassifications initiated from surveys with the Trimble GeoXH 6000.
